Posts for the annual Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day 20-day blog series will start Friday, Sept. 13. Check here each weekday through Oct. 10 for a variety of blogs from people across Kansas sharing their stories.

Please feel free to forward this link to friends and family.

We would like as many people as possible to read these blogs and see why it's so important to increase safety on our roadways. Let's work together to put the brakes on fatalities.

On August 5, 2012 I received the call the mother never wants to receive. My son was working on I470 and just beginning his work day. While working on a piece of equipment he was struck from behind and tragically killed. I ask that everyone stop and think before you get behind the wheel if impaired or if that text is that important that it costs another their life. Always remember your actions don't just affect you it affects everyone around you. My son was 22 and he didn't get to come home that day.
